Model History and Markets
The second generation Mazda 5 (Mk2) debuted in 2010 as a replacement for the first generation (2005–2010). The model was based on the updated Ford C1 platform (like Ford C-Max, Volvo S40), but with Mazda's signature Nagare ("flow") design style.

Production specifics by region:
2010–2015 – Main markets (Europe, USA, Japan, Canada)
2010–2018 – Selected markets (China, Latin America, Russia)

The difference in dates was due to declining demand for compact MPVs in Europe and North America in favor of SUVs, while the model remained popular longer in developing countries.

Interesting Facts

  • In Japan, the Mazda Premacy (Mazda 5 equivalent) offered a hybrid version (2010–2015) with 2.0L gas engine + electric motor, but with low sales.

  • In China, the model was produced until 2018 as Mazda 5 at FAW-Mazda plant.

  • In US/Canada, Mazda 5 sold until 2015 but was discontinued without replacement due to low demand.

  • In Europe, post-2015, compact MPVs gave way to SUVs (Mazda CX-5), so Mazda 5 wasn't updated.

  • In Russia, officially sold until 2016, then replaced by more popular SUVs.

Conclusion
The second-gen Mazda 5 (2010–2018) was a practical but short-lived compact MPV. Its main advantages were sliding doors, efficient engines and affordable pricing. However, due to market shift toward SUVs, it received no direct successor.

Today, the Mazda 5 Mk2 remains a good used family car option, especially post-2013 versions with improved interiors and reliable engines.
