How to Remove the Front Bumper

  1. Lift the hood.
  2. Under the hood, unscrew two screws and remove four clips securing the radiator grille (the upper part of the front bumper).
  3. Remove one clip on each side and take out the turn signals.
  4. In the turn signal openings, unscrew one screw on each side.
  5. From underneath, unscrew eight bolts (fastened from bottom to top).
  6. (1999–2001) On the front face, remove the covers (held by clips) and unscrew four bolts beneath them.
  7. Turn the wheels to the side.
  8. In the wheel arches, remove six clips (three on each side) securing the fender liners (front part).
  9. Push the fender liners aside and unscrew two bolts on each side (fastened from bottom to top) securing the corners to the fenders.
  10. With an assistant, remove the bumper by pulling it forward (mind the wiring).
  11. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

How to Remove the Rear Bumper

  1. Open the trunk lid.
  2. In the trunk opening, unscrew two screws on each side, release the clips in the fenders (clips are very tight), and remove the taillights.
  3. Under the taillights, unscrew two screws on each side securing the top edge of the rear bumper.
  4. Unscrew the screws, remove the rear trunk panel trim, and fold back the edges of the side trims (to access hidden nuts).
  5. Behind the side trims, unscrew one nut on each side securing the brackets to the rear trunk panel.
  6. From underneath, unscrew two more nuts securing the same brackets (these nuts often break due to corrosion).
  7. Unscrew three screws on each side and release the rear part of the fender liners.
  8. Behind the fender liners, unscrew one screw on each side securing the corners to the fenders.
  9. With an assistant, remove the bumper backward from the guide elements in the fenders (watch for wiring).
  10. Disconnect the electrical connectors (if equipped).
